With Mickey and Minnie’s Runaway Railway opening in Spring 2020, Disney’s Hollywood Studios is readying to invite us all to step into the colourful, zany and wonderfully whacky world of the Mickey Mouse shorts.
However before we get to enter through the silver screen and ride alongside Mickey and Minnie onboard Goofy’s Railroad, Disney Parks Blog announced today that a ‘Mickey Shorts Theater’ would be coming to Disney’s Hollywood Studios as well, where you’ll be able to sit back, cool off and watch some Mickey Mouse shorts as a welcomed break during your busy park day. But the big thing missing from the Disney Parks Blog article is the location, as all we know is that it will be in a reimagined existing area of the park.
Now the obvious contender would be to house this within Walt Disney Presents, but considering that Disney like to keep that theater space as interchangeable to promote upcoming movie releases, like “Maleficent 2”, “Frozen 2” or “Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker”, I would guess that this will not be the location.

So where else could it go, well the other popular contender is the former “Sounds Dangerous!” location which has been home to “Star Wars: Path of the Jedi” since December 2015. And now that Star Wars Galaxy’s Edge has now opened, it seems logical that guests don’t want to watch a 20 minute nicely edited montage of Star Wars, when they can go live their Star Wars adventure 300 yards away. So I think that this is where the location will be for the “Mickey Shorts Theater”. But of course this is just logical deduction as Disney Parks Blog did not state its official location.
UPDATE: Disney has now confirmed that the “Path of the Jedi” location will become the new home to the “Mickey Shorts Theater”
And whilst we’re talking about Mickey and Minnie’s Runaway Railway, go ahead and check out the latest DSNY Newscast, as we explain the ride layout for this innovative attraction, and I compare what remains and what will differ from that of The Great Movie Ride.

And as you can see in this simplified layout of Mickey and Minnie’s Runaway Railway, it will share much of the same direction of travel around the show building as The Great Movie Ride. Although don’t go expecting the show spaces it feel the same, as the building was entirely gutted for the integration of the 2 and ½ D projection technology used within the show scenes, which I cannot wait ti see for myself when this attraction opens in Spring 2020.
