“Everything the light touches… is CGI!”
Yep, that’s pretty hard to believe, but Disney visual effects have now progressed to the point where they can recreate the African Savannah, and make it look as realistic as Netflix’s ‘Our Planet’. But this dazzling display of Ultra-Photo Realistic CGI has the power and weight of the story of ‘The Lion King’ behind it.
However, before we go any further check out the trailer for yourself:
The work that director Jon Favreau achieved with ‘The Jungle Book’ was masterful, and it seems that the storytelling limitations of this new CGI medium has reached all new levels with ‘The Lion King’. And within this new trailer, we see our first look at “Scar”, which will have a very different look to that of the scrawny build animated character.
However it does leave me with that aching question, “Do we need remakes of these beloved Animated Classics?” Well, when it comes to something like Dumbo, I felt very strongly that it was expanded the world and depend the story. But with other remakes like Beauty and the Beast, it maintained nearly the exact same story structure as the original. Now, I’m hopeful that The Lion King will take this opportunity to explore new parts of the basic Lion King narrative, but I would have really hoped that we saw more of that within the Trailer. But then again, seeing these iconic moments, is what “sells” the movie to audiences. And with a star studded cast, incredible visuals, an amazing and beloved story, and yes Beyonce singing “Can you feel the love tonight”, I’m certain that this movie is not going to have any trouble convincing audiences to come along for the journey!
The Lion King will ROAR its way into theatres on the 19th July, 2019.
