Imagine Dragons’ song “Zero” was featured on the Ralph Breaks the Internet soundtrack, and Demi Lovato covered “Let it Go.” But I don’t remember* a classic track like Dumbo’s (1942) “Baby Mine” being covered by a band like Arcade Fire. *Feel free to tell me I am long.
However, that’s exactly what’s happened:
Entertainment Weekly’s Ruth Kinane wrote:
Grab your tissues, because the latest trailer for the upcoming live-action Disney movie Dumbo features a rendition of the original movie’s heartbreaking “Baby Mine” by Arcade Fire. The Canadian rock band’s version of the song appears in the 2019 film’s end credits.
The retelling of the 1941 classic glides into theaters later this month and tells the story of a baby elephant born with abnormally large ears, who is separated from his mother. “Baby Mine” scored his mom’s reaction to losing Dumbo in the original movie. When Dumbo is introduced to the circus audience, he is ridiculed for his big ears until he shows them what’s what but using them to fly.
The revived movie is directed by Tim Burton and stars Colin Farrell, Michael Keaton, Danny DeVito, and more. Arcade Fire’s last album was 2017’s Everything Now.
Dumbo flies into theaters March 29.
