On January 26, 2019, Anne Hathaway confirmed a script has been written for a third installment for The Princess Diaries.
While being interviewed on “What Happens Live with Andy Cohen,” Hathaway took a listener question on the possibility of a Princess Diaries 3.
She did confirm there is a script but didn’t confirm it will happen.
Hathaway stated that she wants to do it; Julie Andrews wants to do it, and producer Debra Martin Chase wants to do it, but, as she puts it, “It’s as important to us as it is to you, and we don’t want to deliver anything until it’s ready…”
The Princess Diaries was released in 2001 and The Princess Diaries 2: A Royal Engagement was released in 2004, so the third movie would come almost 20 years after the original film
Unfortunately, the director of the first two movies, Gary Marshall, passed away in 2016, which may have delayed the project from happening sooner.
