“The Bells of Notre Dame” may ring again soon for Disney as a live-action remake of the 1997 animated feature of Hunchback of Notre Dame is in the works.
According to reports, Josh Gad is set to play the iconic role of “Quasimodo” and is also set to produce the film.
Gad, known throughout the Disney community for voicing Olaf in Frozen and playing LeFou in the 2017 live-action remake of Beauty and the Beast, is also known for his role in The Book Of Mormon: The Musical on Broadway; it is obvious that Disney is utilizing Gad’s musical theater chops once again.
Alan Menken and Stephen Schwartz will return to write the music for this new adaptation of Victor Hugo’s novel
Another big name on this project is David Henry Hwang who is set to write the screenplay.
Hwang is a playwright known for his plays such as M. Butterfly, Yellow Face, and his collaboration on the musical Soft Power. This won’t be the first Disney project for Hwang as he wrote the stage version of Disney’s Tarzan and collaborated on Tim Rice and Elton John’s Aida.
