If your Wish for Christmas was to see an exclusive first look at Disney’s upcoming “Aladdin” remake, then you must’ve been talking to the right Genie!
As Entertainment Weekly have released this in-depth focus on the Live-Action Remake of “Aladdin”, directed by Guy Ritchie and featuring Will Smith as the iconic Genie. However, I strongly suggest jumping over to EW and reading the entire editorial for yourself, as it provides many more details regarding the thinking behind the movie’s creative direction.
Now, many across the internet have already started to react to the Live-Action Genie. However, let’s remember that Disney California Adventure’s Hyperion had a very popular long-running stage show that was then adapted for Broadway, and this movie remake has clearly taken inspiration from those creative decisions, instead of remaking the animated classic shot-by-shot.
Which is actually something that many of this Live-Action remakes have suffered from, as they have been criticised for being too close to the original animated movie and not taking their own creative strides.
So, perhaps we should reserve judgment on this retelling of the classic tale, as we’re sure to receive a new Full-Length Trailer in the first few months of 2019, ahead of its May 24th 2019 release.
