Frank Sinatra once crooned:
But now the days grow short
I’m in the autumn of the year
And now I think of my life as vintage wine
From fine old kegs
From the brim to the dregs
And it poured sweet and clear
It was a very good year
Right now, executives and stockholders of The Walt Disney Company are feeling pretty good about 2018 – a very good year…
On December 9, 2018, The Walt Disney Studios surpassed $7 billion in global box office for the calendar year. This is only the second time in history any studio has surpassed the $7 billion mark, after Disney’s own industry-record 2016 global gross of $7.6 billion.
The Studios’ estimated international box office gross through December 9 is an estimated $4.069 billion, marking our second biggest year and the third biggest in industry history.
With Disney’s Mary Poppins Returns set to open on December 19, the Studios’ domestic box office through December 9 is an estimated $2.948 billion, approaching the $3 billion industry record set by Disney in 2016.
Hey, I am not a Disney employee or stockholder, but it was a whole lot of fun covering Walt Disney Studios this year, so let’s enjoy some ‘Ol Blue Eyes as we contemplate 2018, and all of the terrific Disney movie moments.
