The Hollywood Reporter has revealed Black Panther director Ryan Coogler has closed a deal to return to write and direct the highly-anticipated Marvel sequel.
According to the outlet, Coogler is set to begin writing the film next year
Coogler directed the original film, which featured Chadwick Boseman reprising his role as T’Challa in the character’s first standalone film (after his introduction in Captain America: Civil War). The movie followed the King of Wakanda as he returned home to face a new threat and managed to earn $1.3 billion at the worldwide box office, ranking as the ninth highest-grossing film of all time (globally).
A release date for the Black Panther sequel has not yet been set, but the character is expected to return in the untitled fourth Avengers installment.
Avengers 4 hits theaters May 3, 2019.
