Forget Kites… Let’s Go Watch This Trailer. As this morning, Disney released the brand new full-length trailer for Mary Poppins Returns on Good Morning America. And I’ve watched it five times already, and I’ll probably watch it five more!
In the trailer we see a return of Mary Poppins to the Banks household in Depression Era 1930s London, but this time she’s here to save the Banks children, Jane and Michael.
My first impression of the trailer is that the first 30 seconds don’t have the correct tone, but that’s just how it’s edited for a short trailer. As one of the most difficult jobs in Movie Marketing is trying to convey an accurate representation of a feature length movie in 120 seconds.
However, after that the trailer conjures the same magical, spell-bounding nostalgia of the 1964 classic, as this new movie will be a sequel to the original, not a remake. Besides that, the only other thing which is a small thing, but I still wonder about, is the colour grading of this trailer compared to the colour style of the original.
But with that being said, this trailer offers up exactly what a massive “Mary Poppins” fan like myself would’ve wanted, brilliant orchestral score, a glimpse at the wonderful musical numbers, and yes… even Dick Van Dyke!
Although, if you’re not already excited enough, Disney released this official poster as well:
Mary Poppins Returns will be flying into theatres on December 19th 2018, and I guess Christmastime will be all the more magical this year.
