Originally slated to re-open Fall 2018, Phantom Manor will now re-open in January of 2019. Disneyland Paris hasn’t provided any reasoning for the delay, and since the attraction is housed in an enclosed show building, it is hard to tell their progress.
The Phantom Manor hasn’t received many updates since it’s opening in 1992, which means Disney will likely incorporate many state-of-the-art technologies such as life-like animatronics and special effects used in the American parks into the new ride. Of these special effects, the Hatbox ghost (who was added to Disneyland Resort’s Haunted Mansion in 2015) was rumoured to make an appearance, however this does not seem likely.
In terms of what we know about the story, details are sparse. Upon the ride’s closure in January of this year, Disney announced that the original narration by Vincent Price will be reworked into this much-loved attraction, and imaginer Tom Fitzgerald hinted to Disney FanDaze attendees that the identity of the infamous phantom will finally be revealed.
This attraction, now slated for an early-2019 opening, will resume regular operation at the same time as the development for the 3 new mini-lands coming to Walt Disney Studios park will begin. That’s all we know for now, but if there are any updates we’ll be sure to let you know.
